Did you know that Peter Cushing was born today in 1913? He was an English actor. He performed in more than 130 television shows and movies. Some of his roles include Baron Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Van Helsing, Fitzwilliam Darcy, Doctor Who, and Grand Moff Tarkin from Star Wars. While filming Star Wars, the boots he was supposed to wear as part of his costume did not fit. He was given permission to wear his slippers instead. The next time you watch Star Wars, you’ll notice that you never see Grand Moff Tarkin’s feet!

Although he excelled at playing dark characters, Peter Cushing actually had a very gentle personality. He was a vegetarian and enjoyed birdwatching and painting. He loved his wife, Helen deeply and was devastated when she passed away.
Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee appeared in 24 films together. Even though they often acted in the same movies as antagonists and protagonists (e.g. Dracula and Dr. Van Helsing), Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were the best of friends off-screen.
In 1989 Peter Cushing was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
