Did you know that many words that are associated with ‘night’ come from the Latin word nox or noct? J.K. Rowling used ‘Nox’ as the word for the spell that extinguishes the light from a wand. Other words that use the nox/noct root include: equinox, which means ‘equal night’ and describes the time of year when there are equal amounts of night and day. A nocturne is a piece of music or sound that reminds people of the night; they are often tranquil, calm, or relaxing. A noctilucous plankton glows or shines in the ocean at night. Can you think of any other nox/noct words?

We hope that you limit your nocturnal reading and get a good night’s sleep! Remember to think kind thoughts, use kind words, and do kind things. We Love You.

Bonus Facts:
In the 18th century, nocturnes were music pieces that there played at night, for evening parties.
