Did you know that the Fifteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified or approved today in 1870? It made it illegal to deny a citizen to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude. Previous to this amendment, voting was mostly reserved for white males. Even after this law was made, some people made it hard to vote by requiring literacy tests, expensive taxes, or intimidating people into not voting. It wasn’t until 1965 that the Voting Rights Act put an end to this discrimination.

We hope that you have a fair day at school. Remember to think kind thoughts, use kind words, and do kind things. We Love You.

Bonus Fact:
Women were not given the right to vote until the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, in 1920.
