Did you know that James Clark Ross discovered the North Magnetic Pole in 1831? The North Magnetic Pole is different from the Geographic North Pole. The Geographic North Pole is the point which the Earth rotates around or the ‘top’ of the globe. The North Magnetic pole is the place on the earth that attracts the ‘North’ side of a magnet. It is the point where the Earth’s magnetic fields ‘dip’ back to the center of the earth.
Since the outer core of the Earth is molten or liquid, the North Magnetic Pole actually moves around. The pole is moving northwest about 30 -37 miles per year. The North Magnetic Pole is currently in Canada, but is drifting towards Russia.
We hope you have a great day of discovery! Remember to think kind thoughts, use kind words and do kind things. We Love You.
