Did you know that Israel Isidore Beilin was born today in 1888? He is better known as Irving Berlin, a famous American songwriter and composer. He wrote more than 1,500 songs for musicals, the radio, movies, and television. Some of his famous songs include “White Christmas”, “Putting on the Ritz”, “Blue Skies”, and “God Bless America”. Even today, you’ll hear the song “White Christmas” during the winter, and “God Bless America” at many sports games or patriotic events. Some of his musicals include “This is the Army”, a set of films about life in the army during a World War II; and “Annie Get Your Gun”, a musical about the life of Annie Oakley.
