Did you know that John Muir was born today in 1838? John Muir was a Scottish-American author, naturalist and preservationist. A naturalist is someone who studies nature; such as, animals and plants and the environments they live in. A preservationist is someone who works to protect the environment from changes such as cutting down forests to make room for houses or farming.
As a young man, he traveled and explored many areas of the United States (once he walked 1,000 miles from Indiana to Florida!). He wrote more than 300 articles and 12 books about his experiences in nature, which helped people and the government recognize the importance of protecting natural environments. For this, John Muir is also known as the “Father of the National Parks”.
We hope that you have a tranquil day at school. Remember to think kind thoughts, use kind words, and do kind things. We Love You.
