Did you know that Abraham Lincoln was born today in 1809?  In 1860 he was elected as the 16th president of the United States.  As president, he led the country during the Civil War, stopped slavery in the United States, and decided when to celebrate Thanksgiving.  He is also known for his Gettysburg Address; now one of the most quoted speeches in American history.

Sadly, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, but we still remember the great things he did.  His picture appears on the penny as well as the $5 bill.  The most famous memorials are the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, and the sculpture on Mount Rushmore.

We hope that you have a productive day at school.  Remember to say kind words, do kind things, and think kind thoughts.  We Love You.
